Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a list of some of the ways you can get involved at SCUMC and a short description of the time commitment. If you see something that interests you, please contact the church office at 423-365-6324 and you will be put in touch with that ministry.  If you are interested in a ministry that is not on this list, contact Pastor Dale and see where it leads you!

SCUMC Volunteer Opportunities



  • Ushers – Rotating schedule; approximately once a month
  • Hosts/Greeters – Rotating schedule; approximately once a month
  • Acolytes – Rotating schedule; approximately once every three weeks
  • Communion Servers – First Sunday of every month
  • Multi-media – Rotating schedule
  • Chancel Choir – Wednesdays at 7 PM, Sundays at 11 AM
  • Special Worship Music – Scheduled as appropriate
  • Youth Choir – Wednesdays 5-6 PM
  • Children’s Choir – Currently inactive
  • Ding-A-Lings – Handbell Choir, currently inactive
  • Nursery Workers – Rotating schedule; Sundays 9:45 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Children’s Church Leaders – Rotating schedule; approximately once a month
  • Security/Emergency Response – During Sunday Worship and as needed
  • Sanctuary Supply and Care – As needed


  • Sunday School Leaders and Substitutes – Every Sunday
  • Bible Study Facilitators – As appropriate, short- and long-term
  • Library Workers – As needed

Children and Youth

  • Youth Group Helpers and Chaperones – Providing meals for youth group on a rotating basis, chaperones as needed
  • Puppet Ministry Helpers – Sundays 5-6 PM and for performances
  • Children’s Ministry Workers – Currently as needed
  • VBS Workers – One week annually in June M-F from 6-8:30 PM and Sunday 11 AM
  • Easter and Fall Festival Helpers
  • Mother’s Day Out – As needed
  • Boy Scout and Cub Scout Leaders –Every Monday at 7 PM and some Saturdays, or as needed for special events
  • Confirmation Mentors – As needed


  • Higher Education/Campus Ministry – Cards, care packages, etc.; as needed
  • TLC – Knitting or crocheting prayer shawls and other crafting items; every Monday
  • United Methodist Women – Fellowship, service and missions; first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM
  • Let’s Do Lunch – Lunch for ladies 60 and up; third Tuesday of every month
  • Just Older Youth (JOY) – Monthly planning meetings


  • Community Ministries Dinner – Kitchen helpers and servers; third Thursday of every month
  • Helping Hands Ministry – Various services to the community; as needed
  • Mexico Medical Mission – One week annually in the spring
  • Our Daily Bread – Contact ODB for info


  • G.R.O.W. Ministry – Outreach to guests and community members, third Thursday of every month 6-7 PM
  • Fifth Sunday Sing – Every 5th Sunday of the month
  • Singing at Spring City Care and Rehab – Every Tuesday at 10 AM


  • Transportation Team – Driving the bus as needed (must have CDL)
  • Memorial Team/Bereavement  – funeral meals; as needed
  • Prayer Chain – As needed
  • History and Records – As needed
  • Parsonage Team – As needed
  • Special Offerings – Various times and ministries throughout the year
  • New Member Home Visitation – As needed
